The Unique Charity was founded by Unique Talent CIC on its 10th anniversary to build a legacy of empowerment for young people affected by gangs, knife crime, human trafficking, county lines, and exploitation. Too many children are groomed, coerced, and manipulated into criminal activity before they even realise what is happening. We exist to break this cycle, ensuring children have the support, opportunities, and guidance to build a better future.
What makes us truly unique is that we are led by those who have lived these experiences. Our CEO, Aisosa Henkoma, is a survivor of human trafficking with an inspiring testimony of resilience and transformation (link to Sosa’s full story here). Alongside him, Max, founder of Escape the Hood Clothing, is a local entrepreneur committed to helping young people escape the same struggles he once faced. Both leaders come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are passionate about creating change that goes beyond their own personal journeys.
Our approach is simple yet powerful. We invest directly in young people, their ideas, and their futures. We provide funding, mentoring, and employment opportunities that allow individuals and small grassroots projects to create lasting change within their communities. Our core services include the Future Leaders Fund, offering start-up grants and business coaching; the Unique Threads Charity Shop, providing work experience and employment; and the Escape Routes Retreat, a five-day transformational programme to help young people rebuild their lives.
Every young person deserves a future free from violence, exploitation, and fear. Through lived experience, opportunity, and the power of community, we are making that future a reality.
